ECOMONDO 2023: Funding circular economy innovation in Europe
04.09.2023Ecomondo is a place to be for players in the ecological transition and for green&circulr economy, it is a place to meet stakeholders, policy makers, opinion leaders, research and institutions… also the European Commission, which chooses Ecomondo to address issues related to funding and development opportunities in the circular economy sector.
This year and for the first time, four European Executive Agencies of the European Commission will jointly take part in Ecomondo 2023. Together, these EU Agencies (CINEA, EISMEA, REA and HaDEA) manage the key EU funding programmes for the green and digital transition in Europe.

At Ecomondo they will share a joint stand, located in the south hall, will organise events and conferences, and it will be possible to meet them to get an update of the latest European calls for proposals and to discover the companies whose successful projects are driving the transition towards the circular economy. European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA)
The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has been established by the European Commission to implement parts of EU funding programmes. The Agency has a key role in supporting the European Green Deal – one of the European Commission’s main strategic priorities.
CINEA manages seven EU programmes worth around € 65 billion: Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), part of Horizon Europe (“Energy, Transport and Climate”), LIFE Programme, European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), Innovation Fund, EU Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism and Just Transition Mechanism.
European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)
The European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) implements the European Innovation Council and manages other EU programmes focusing on SME support, innovation and the single market. The European Innovation Council (EIC) has been established under the Horizon Europe programme. It has a budget of € 10.1 billion (2021–2027) to support game changing innovations throughout the lifecycle from early-stage research to proof of concept, technology transfer, and the financing and scale up of start-ups and SMEs.
European Research Executive Agency (REA)
Established by the European Commission, the European Research Executive Agency (REA) implements different EU programmes: Parts of Horizon Europe (among which “Food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environment”), parts of Horizon 2020, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel and the Promotion of agricultural products’ programme. From 2021 to 2027 REA will invest over €22.7 billion to support research and innovation. The agency will thus contribute to the achievement of the EU Green Deal’s climate action goals and the five EU Missions under Horizon Europe for a greener, healthier, inclusive and resilient Europe.
European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA)
The European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) was created on 1 April 2021, with the commitment to boost Europe by building, from Earth to space, a healthy society, a competitive industry and a digital economy. HaDEA’s mission is to implement actions in the domains of health, food safety, digital technologies and networks, industrial capacities and space. The expected total budget managed by HaDEA over the period 2021-2027 amounts to over €20 billion, distributed across the following programmes (or parts of): Horizon Europe Cluster 4: Digital, Industry and Space; Horizon Europe Cluster 1: Health; Connecting Europe Facility: Digital; Digital Europe Programme; EU4Health programme; Single Market Programme: Food safety.
